Profile

The OTH Technical University of Applied Sciences Amberg-Weiden is a young and innovative university whose two locations offer students a broad and established range of studies, diverse campus life and good supervision The approx. 3,500 students are taught and supported by some 95 professors.

In 2019 the OTH Amberg-Weiden celebrated its 25th anniversary and is now firmly rooted and excellently networked in the knowledge region of Upper Palatinate. It sees its location in the heart of Europe as the basis for intercultural thinking and international orientation: The OTH Amberg-Weiden currently cooperates with approx. 72 partner universities across 33 countries.

In 26 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses the OTH Amberg-Weiden offers its students in four faculties (Mechanical Engineering/Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Industrial Engineering and Health, as well as the Weiden Business School) a wide and established range of courses, which, together with the economy, are defined in a demand-orientated manner for the job market and at the same time are internationally focused. All Bachelor’s degree courses are also offered as dual study programmes, and some as on-the-job degree courses, such as the Bachelor’s degree in Retail and Service Management and the Master’s degree in Applied Business Psychology. The Weiden location distinguishes itself with degree courses such as Medical Technology, Retail and Service Management or Logistics and Digitalisation. Outstanding courses such as Patent Engineering are supplemented in Amberg, for example, by Industry 4.0 Computer Science, Biotechnology and Environmental Process Engineering, IT and Automation, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or Media Production and Media Technology.

The OTH Amberg-Weiden maintains unique cooperation and partnership models with companies (Partner Circle), which guarantees a direct transfer of knowledge and experience between teaching and practice, science and business. This is also reflected in the numerous success research projects and the growing research strength of the university. The OTH Amberg-Weiden was the first HAW in Bavaria to be awarded the title Fairtrade University and was successfully recertified in 2019.

The OTH Technical University of Applied Sciences has been an association of the OTH Amberg-Weiden with the OTH Regensburg since the winter semester 2013/14.
